About the conference

The working languages of the congress are English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

Host and venue

The event is organised by the Chair of Ancient History and Archaeology of the Faculty of History and the Arheoinvest Center of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute – Science Department from the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi, and will take place in the University’s precincts.

Social programme

The social programme includes the welcoming dinner on November 5th and the trip to the Painted Churches of Northern Moldavia (UNESCO World Heritage Site) on November 9th.

Register attendance

No registration fee! — The congress is organised within the framework of project RIVSOC financially supported by the Romanian National Council of Scientific Research.

The organisers will cover the expenses regarding the registration fee, welcoming dinner, meals and trip. Expenses for travel, accommodation and activities outside of the set programme will be covered by the participants.

Travel and accommodation

Iasi Airport (IAS) is linked to several international airports, including Vienna, Rome, Milan and Tel Aviv. The arrivals-departures schedule can be found on the airport’s website. The Airport is located at 10 km from the city centre (~6 euros taxicab fare). Please let us know if you would, however, like to be picked-up from the airport.
Transportation: the recommended hotels are relatively close (~1 km / 0.7 mi) to the conference venue. Alternatively, you can use a taxicab (0.6 euros/km) or public tranportation (0.5 euros/ride)
Currency: Romanian Leu or RON: 1 EURO = 4.75 RON, 1 USD = 4.25 RON
Air temperature in November: 5-10°C (accuweather.com)

Participants can be accommodated in the University’s Gaudeamus and Akademos hotel-dormitories (private rooms with bathroom, breakfast included) for 27€/night for a single room or 37€ for a double room. Forty (40) rooms (most single) are available for the conference participants.

About Iași

Iași is the second largest city in Romania, and the seat of Iași County. Located in the historical region of Moldavia, Iași has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Romanian social, cultural, academic and artistic life. The city was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia from 1564 to 1859, then of the United Principalities from 1859 to 1862, and the capital of Romania from 1916 to 1918. Known as The Cultural Capital of Romania, Iași is a symbol in Romanian history. Still referred to as The Moldavian Capital, Iași is the main economic and business centre of the Moldavian region of Romania. In December 2018, Iași was officially declared Historical capital of Romania.
