ABSTRACT

This work analyzes the origin of the term “synodita” from its primitive Greek meaning, to the Latin derivation and subsequent changes in the interpretation. Through the exegesis of its use in ancient and Late Antiquity sources, the aim is to justify how the various readings have been as disparate as a travel companion, guildmate or cenobite.

KEYWORDS
