Abstract: The digital edition of fragmentary Latin historians. Problems, methods and perspectives. Among the digital editions of ancient texts there is still no complete edition of the fragments of Latin historians known only through indirect tradition. Numerous editions with commentary have been published after Peter HRR2, even complete ones. The problems of these works are various: separating the original text from the citation context or distinguishing the author’s words from those of his source; understanding the reasons for the citation (linguistic or otherwise); placing the fragments within the work and reconstructing the chronology of events; providing a translation and a commentary on the text. Further questions arise in relation to the sources, because sometimes reliable editions are not yet available. My doctorate thesis at the University of Sassari is a new traditional edition with commentary of the fragments of the historian Lucius Coelius Antipater, but I have also prepared a digital edition (text and apparatus) through the functions of Google Sites. The fragmentation of this kind of work could be bypassed putting this edition in a broader project, the digital critical edition of all Latin fragmentary historians, according to projects as Digital Fragmenta Historicorum Graecorum (DFHG) and Fragments of the Republican Roman Orators (FRRO).
