Abstract: Military violence from Luke to Augustine: some issues and a case-study. This study aims to analyse the evolution of the treatment of Lk 3:14 at the turn of the fourth and fifth centuries, with particular attention to the interpretation given by Augustine. In this sense, exhortation – attributed to Jesus in Luke’s gospel – to the soldiers not to use violence against civilians is reworked by Augustine in the context of the war against the barbarians, with relevant consequences.
