Abstract: Historia proxima poetis: Observations on Sisenna and Accius’ Lexicon. The surviving fragments of Sisenna’s historiographical work display obvious connections between the language used by the Sullan historian and that of contemporary poets, in particular Accius. This seems to confirm that the reuse of poetic vocabulary was already practiced by Latin historical writers in the pre-Ciceronian era.
