Abstract: Aeternitas imperii. The Arch of Constantine, the imperial mens and the Cristian evocatio. The arch of Constantine, the subject of numerous studies, has recently returned to the center of attention of critics, who have highlighted traces of the ancient rite of evocatio. For this reason, the monument was used to reiterate the emperor’s loyalty to the cult of Sol, even after the battle of the Milvian bridge. The text also analyzes the epigraph in relation to the knowledge that the Christian world had of the evocatio and its meaning, noting how a correct use of sources and a careful translation lead to dissuading from openly unilateral positions.
