Keywords: Late Roman Army, Strasbourg, Alamanni, heavy infantry, Julian.

Abstract: The Primani and the battle of Strasbourg (357): some considerations on the Late Roman heavy infantry and the generalship of the Caesar Julian. In this work we aim to study and highlight the role of heavy infantry in the Late Roman army, showing (thanks to the example of the battle of Strasbourg) that such units still enjoyed relevance and that they often played a prominent, if not decisive, role in battles. In the same way, the performance of Caesar Julian in what was his first pitched battle will be reviewed, reaching the conclusion that the character had taken care to receive an excellent military education that was reflected in his performance as a general in Gaul.
